Sino-Danish Green Power Cooperation

On 16 January 2025, under the guidance of China’s National Energy Agency and Denmark’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the China Renewable Energy Engineering Institute and the Danish Energy Agency organised the Sino-Danish Green Power Cooperation Project Results Conference and Green Power Consumption Seminar in Beijing.

The event shared the findings of a report entitled “Facilitating China’s Green Transformation: A Comparative Study of the Chinese Green Electricity Certificate and the European Union’s Guarantee of Origin in the Context of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM)”. The report analysed the following:

  • The rules design and market aspects of the GEC and the GO
  • Comparing the GEC and GO in terms of application and regulatory governance
  • The application of energy attribution certificates for CBAM

Additionally, the paper made the following recommendations for further investigation:

  • Mutual recognition of GECs and GOs
  • Accelerating the interoperability of energy attribute certificate standards from different countries
  • To increase the consumption of energy attribute certificates to support the energy transition and sustainable economic and social development of both countries

Wan Jinsong, Deputy Director of the National Energy Administration, Michael Starbæk Christensen, Danish Ambassador to China, and Stine Leth Rasmussen, Deputy Director-General of the Danish Energy Agency, attended the event and gave speeches.
