What are Renewable Energy Certificates? (RECs)
A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is a legal instrument that conveys to its owner, the right to claim the associated environmental attributes of its generation of renewable energy resources. It represents the green attributes of the power.
When a renewable energy source produces 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity, one REC is produced.
RECs can originate from energy generated from solar, wind, hydro or other renewable sources.
